Trotter's lucky 13

IT WAS lucky 13 for Loddon trotter Could Dowitharain at Ballarat on Friday night.

The four-year-old bay gelding won the mobile start maiden trot for his first win.

Paddock bred by Greg Hargreaves, Could Dowitharain driven by Alex Ashwood finished a whisker shy of six metres ahead in the 2200-metre race.

Co-owner Max Higgs said: “Starting from barrier three and showing good gate speed, Could Dowitharain, went straight to the lead, trotted faultlessly throughout and failed to repeat any of his many previous mistakes. Briefly headed on the turn for home, he displayed hitherto unseen fighting qualities to win.”

The horse is raced by members of the Hargreaves family including family matriarch and leviathan owner Shirley (who had another winner in Mr Perfect half an hour later at Mildura), Annie and Max Higgs of Bridgewater, Butch Yorston of Korong Vale, Les Chapman of Maryborough, Marcus Kirkwood from Singleton, ex-Wedderburn local Jan Gould and her cousin, Logan’s Shaun McNaulty”.
