Tough gigs in second half

Updated: Oct 20, 2021

NORTH Central football resumes Saturday after the official mid-season break and the Loddon’s teams are primed for a strong second half.

Wedderburn sit second on the ladder, only lowering the colours to Sea Lake Nandaly early in the season.

“We have worked hard early to put ourselves into a pretty good position going into the second half of the season but it’s all very even,” said co-coach Danny Benaim.

“We have a few injuries at the moment but we should see those boys return in the next couple of weeks.

“Hopefully we can continue our good form but there doesn’t seem to be many easy games in NCFL this year so we’ll have to stay switched on and continue to work really hard to achieve the results.”

Key player Will Holt will still be missing from the Redbacks’ lineup against St Arnaud on Saturday following suspension after the Boort match.

Boort take on Birchip Watchem and coach Andrew Hawker says he is looking forward the season resuming.

Birchip Watchem is sitting third on the ladder while Boort is in sixth spot separated by percentage from Charlton, both with three wins for the season.

“However, we have a tough trip to Birchip this week. It will be good to see if our structures have improved since we last met them,” Hawker said.

“In the short term we look to be competitive each week but we are also very realistic about our rebuild and know it will not happen in one season.

“It’s quite challenging when it is such a start stop season to get some continuity and build a game style.

“We still have a lot of improvement within the group and look forward to each challenge,“ Hawker said.
