Straight to work

LIGHTNING strikes have had Loddon volunteer firefighters battling multiple blazes.

The largest at Bears Lagoon last Thursday afternoon burnt more than 40 hectares with the Kestrel firefighting helicopter that arrived at its temporary Boort base the previous day making 12 water dumps as three CFA units and two private tankers fought on the ground.

It’s the third year Canadian pilot Grant Hislop has come to Australia.

He is based in Boort until December 22 while the region’s grain harvest is in full swing.
