Solar funding call

KOOYOORA Women’s Network has launched a fundraising drive to install a solar system at its food share centre in Bridgewater.

The network has joined with Bendigo Sustainability Group to crowd fund the initiative that will lower energy bills and reduce the carbon footprint.

Committee member Carly Noble said the need for sustainable long-term food security had been identified during COVID-19 lockdowns.

“The rising cost of food and the limited access to healthy produce over the last few years has become a serious concern for patrons in the Bridgewater and surrounding communities,” she said.

“The new blue container which is situated at the front of the Platform 1 Hub will be the location of the food share centre which will also house a refrigerated system that will store the perishable food delivered through to the centre.”

Money raised will fund solar panels, an inverter, installation, cabling and trenching of the unit.
