Season on the line

HOPES of reigning Upper Loddon Cricket Association premiers Bridgewater defending the crown in the 2021-2022 season will be on the line this Saturday.

Bridgewater will be at home to Boort-Yando when the association season resumes from the Christmas-New Year break.

The visitors sit currently sit above Bridgewater on the ladder, separated only by percentage.

And while Bridgewater has been well served with the bat by Tom McKinley, second on the league table with 169 runs so far this season, and multiple wicket takers Darcy Wood, Kevin Bloom and Harry McKinley, the form that propelled the side to honours last season is yet to be shown.

Boort-Yando has had a couple of close finishes, going down in the final over in the match before the break against last season's runners-up Wedderburn.

Captain Jarrod Hodoras has certainly been leading by example, knocking 156 runs so far for the season and claiming three wickets with the ball and one in the field.

He is finding support from Fergus Bear, Alex Cockerell, Brian Minogue and Drew Crilly.

A win for Boort-Yando looks possible and would give them space on the ladder.

The other match on Saturday sees Wedderburn host the current association juggernaut Arnold.

Like their last grand final opponent, Wedderburn has struggled for form this season and has been challenged by a floating team composition.

Arnold had the bye in the final round before Christmas but will be sure to quickly hit the New Year straps.

Scholes with the bat, Cam Dale with ball are leading a team showing depth and conviction.
