River camp sign erected

GOVERNMENT officials have started arriving at Loddon River farms as new river-front camping sites are announced.

Department of Environment, Land Water and Planning staff moved through private property on Tuesday to access one site near Bridgewater.

The department has told riverfront Crown land licence holders that staff “may undertake minor works including the installation of signage to remind visitors of the rules and their obligations, and a map representing the camping area”.

While the Government says the opening of camping areas will coincide with sites being listed on the DEWLP website, the department told licence holders confirmation of an anticipated date would be “provided soon”.

However, at least one Loddon River site was listed without notification of a start date.

The Loddon Herald reported last week that five Loddon River sites had been added to the website. More are expected under the Government’s new policy.
