Regal and safe: weekend police blitz
LODDON police will be part of the statewode road safety blitz Operation Regal over the Queen's Birthday weekend.
Acting Sgt Mick Balazs said this afternoon that local police would be out in force from 12.01am Friday on local roads and highways.
"Police will be highly visible and enforcing across the state to reduce road trauma and positively influence road user behaviour," Sgt Balazs said.
"We will be targeting speeding and impaired drivers – you should expect to be tested for drugs and alcohol.
"Distraction and fatigue will also be a focus, as it continues to be a factor in fatal and serious
Sgt Balazs said long weekends were high-risk periods on oroads, and the June long weekend presented additional challenges with poor visibility and likely wintery weather conditions.
"Check the conditions prior to travelling – if the weather is expected to be poor, avoid being on the road if you don’t have to. If you’re driving – slow down, leave extra space when driving in the wet, and use your headlights to help see and be seen," he said.
" We cannot afford to be complacent as we enter another risky period on our roads."
Operation Regal runs until midnight Monday.
