Rain delays bridge work

WET weather has extended work time for Goulburn-Murray Water on a channel bridge at Pyramid Hill.

The bridge over the No.1 channel along Pyramid-Yarraberb Rd will now be closed to traffic in both directions until July 10.

Localised road access will continue to be available to residents.

The alternate route will continue to be signposted until the road re-opens.

Traffic from the north is being diverted along the Boort-Mitiamo Rd, through Mitiamo onto Bendigo-Pyramid Rd, and then south west onto Echuca-Serpentine Rd.

GMW infrastructure delivery services general manager Warren Jose said the rain had delayed the concrete pouring until June 22.

“It takes two weeks minimum to achieve the required concrete strength before it can open to traffic,” he said.

“The crew put in a lot of effort, including weekend work, to get that over the line.

“They have also been continuing to do works around and under the bridge.”

Delivery of the bridge rail was expected on Monday.

“I’m pleased with the progress. If not for the rain, works would have been on target.”

Mr Jose said local services had been notified to ensure residents would not be impacted during the road closure.

“Please remember to take extra care when using these roads, as there will be increased traffic and heavy vehicles in the area,” he said.

The upgrade and maintenance works, which started on June 6, are part of GMW’s $8 million winter works program, which sees maintenance and upgrades during the irrigation shutdown, Mr Jose said this week.
