Phone dropout anger
REGULAR loss of phone connections in Loddon townships risked community safety, Cr Gavan Holt told last week’s shire council meeting.
Cr Holt raised concerns from Wedderburn supermarket owner Leigh Randall after battery back-up at the town’s telephone exchange dropped out mid-way through a planned power outage.
Council’s ramping up of advocacy for better phone service back-ups came as Telstra was beginning replacement of batteries at mobile base stations in Serpentine and Dingee.
Telstra’s Victorian regional general manager Steve Tinkler said: “Recently there have been a number of mains power outages in the region.
