Peter's late picking
LONG-TIME Loddon vigneron Peter Cumming expects this season’s vintage to produce wines with flavour the equal of any in the last 20 years.
Peter is just mid-way through harvest at his Bridgewater vineyards, the latest picking season he can remember.
Spring and follow-up summer rains had contributed to a long ripening period for grapes this season.
“This year has been a long, slow ripening year and they (grapes) will have more flavour than most in the past 20 years,” he said.
Peter said picking this season was a month later than usual. “It’s the latest in my lifetime. In the 1980s we would have started picking around Australia.”
