One proud Bear

SATURDAY’S game felt more like the senior debut than a 300th appearance for Andrew Gladman.

The Bears Lagoon Serpentine stalwart admitted to having nervous moments in his historic Loddon Valley game against Newbridge.

“It was like my first senior game ... I had the yips for a while,” said Gladman.

But in a rampaging final term, Gladman kicked three goals to add to his earlier five behinds as the Bears extended a two-point lead at the final break into 48-point final margin.

Gladman said his game settled during that steamrolling fourth quarter. And while taking his season tally to 32 goals, Gladman admitted he still occasionally drifts to the defensive zone.

“Until a few years ago, I always played down around the backline,” he said. “I am a fairly defensive type of player.”

“But as you get older, it’s easier to sit up forward.”
