Off and pitching
MALLEE candidates have jumped from the starter’s block, pitching their platforms for the May 21 federal election.
Sitting member Anne Webster will face at least four challengers in the local poll race where child care, roads and telecommunications have already emerged as key issues.
Other declared candidates are independent Sophie Baldwin, Horsham councillor Claudia Haenel standing as a community independent, Swan Hill councillor Stuart King for United Australia Party and Australian Citizens’ Party’s Chris Lahy putting his hand up for a second tilt.
Labor and the Greens have yet to name candidates in Mallee while the Liberals will not stand against the Nationals’ Dr Webster.
Australian Electoral Commission says local polling locations are still to be confirmed.
