Not yet ... city folk early

MELBOURNE residents were turned away from one Loddon Hotel over the Queen’s Birthday weekend.

At least two people made it several hundred kilometres to Wedderburn where hotel publican Gary Crawley asked for proof of residence.

The State Government now requires country businesses to check the ID of customers with Melburnians still required to stay within 25km of their home under metropolitan COVID restrictions.

The Melbourne visitors told the local publican they were in town to collect a car.

Gary and wife Myra advised the pair they could not remain at the hotel on Saturday evening and they left quietly.

Myra said: “We’re just doing what we are supposed to do.

“But it hard on small businesses, on all people, having to be at the door every night checking patrons for their ID,” Myra said.
