North Central starts today

THE signing of Bears Lagoon Serpentine bigman Nathan Twigg is reported to be one of the big coups for Boort in the North Central league.

Twigg is crossing from Loddon Valley league where he was runner-up in last season’s best and fairest and took out the junior award in 2015.

Boort’s other big signing is Sam Grant from Calivil.

The Magpies will again have Andy Hawker as coach after a year in which the club had a 3-7 record and was far more competitive.

Hawker was appointed back at the end of 2019 but had to wait until last year to put his charges into action.

Beaten in rounds one and two of the 2021 campaign, Boort hit back to win its next two matches and by the end of round six had a three-three record and was fourth on the ladder.

Hawker said he was looking for further progress from the Magpies this season and to have a talented group of local youngsters pushing for regular selection.

“We’re a bit fitter this season and will be pretty competitive,” Hawker said.

“There can be growth from our juniors, we want to keep bringing the local kids through. We’re well positioned to blood them this year.”
