New tree for Queen

BRITAIN at the weekend was awash with pomp and ceremony for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

And in a fortnight, the Boort community will plant a new tree honouring her long reign just as it did when the Queen’s coronation took place on June 2, 1953.

On that day, school children from across the district gathered in Nolens Park.

Kevin Sutton and Paul Haw were among the crowd, two students from the Yando school in what Paul says was “the only excursion we ever had at primary school”.

Both will be in the park for the planting of the tree by Boort District School Year 6 students and school captains with a barbecue to celebrate the occasion.

Organised by the town’s tourism and development committee, Paul said an attempt had been made to obtain Federal Government funding for a jubilee tree before the election was called but no response was received.
