Local road among worst
THE Boort-Charlton road has been named among the state’s worst, according to a campaign by the Victorian Coalition.
The National and Liberal parties are running a three-month campaign, asking people to list roads they want fixed.
Coalition roads spokesperson Steph Ryan said that since elected in 2014, the State Government had axed funds for targeted maintenance of local roads by abolishing the Country Roads and Bridges Program and disbanded the joint parliamentary committee that had overseen road safety since 1967.
Ms Ryan said drivers had an important role to play in exposing the problems. “Instead of fixing roads that are falling apart, State Labor favours a cheap, Band-aid fix with lower speed limits.”
The campaign finishes next month and the list of roads will then be presented to the Government.
