EAST Loddon sub-branch of the RSL is preparing to return its charter following the ANZAC Day ceremony in Calivil.
While more than 100 people attended the commemoration, it was the final official function of the sub-branch.
President Ian Anderson said membership had dropped well below the required number for a sub-branch in recent years.
“We will have to hand back our charter,” Mr Anderson said.
The sub-branch was formed in 1954 and among those present on ANZAC Day was Darby Illingworth, now of Bendigo, who was president for 48 years.
Calivil’s service also had a full pipe band for the first time in several decades with members of the combined Bendigo Highland-Clan Macleod bands in attendance.
Students from East Loddon P-12 College and the community placed wreaths at the memorial.
Glenn Ray was guest speaker, detailing the sub-branch’s history and earlier sub-branches that had existed in Dingee and Serpentine.
Mr Anderson said the Calivil service was jointly organised by the sub-branch and hall committee.
