Harry leads new program

Updated: Oct 20, 2021

HARRY McKinley is eager to engage more Loddon youngsters on the cricket field this summer.

The Bridgewater player will lead the region’s first-ever Cricket Blast program kicking off today and says it’s a great way for children to have fun while learning cricketing skills.

“We’ve had Auskick going for a few years but never cricket,” said Harry. “Yet there are always youngsters watching us train and play throughout the summer.”

He said the junior program would give them the opportunity to explore the sport.

“Cricket Blast is open to children right across the Loddon and hopefully from there, more youngsters will look to be part of teams at Bridgewater or Arnold or other places in the region,” he said.

“And it gives them a chance to play with others of their own age while learning the skills.”

Harry, whose preference is batting and wicketkeeping, is a premiership player with Bridgewater.

“We’re lucky, too, that there’s also great support from parents in the region to make Cricket Blast a success,” he said.

“It’s a great team sport. That’s what I love about cricket, being in a team with others.”

Cricket Blast is a national program aimed at children aged five to 12.

The Bridgewater eight-week program starts today at 5pm.
