Garbage fee hike proposed

A RATE rise at the state cap of 1.75 per cent and a 10 per cent jump in waste charges have been proposed in Loddon Shire’s 2022-2023 budget.

Councillors on Tuesday decided to seek public comment on the shire’s draft budget.

The financial plan says: “Waste charges are proposed to increase by 10 per cent compared to 2021-2022 levels in order to recover the total cost of waste management incurred across the shire.

“Future years’ waste charges are estimated to increase at the same rate but will be assessed annually to ensure council continues to recover the full cost of providing waste services.

“Council has discretion over increases relating to garbage and recycling charges.”

The residential garbage service (140-litre bin) will cost $389 and businesses with a 240-

litre bin will pay $529. Kerbside recycling service will be $147 for a 240-litre bin.
