Footy's next young guns

THE full-on reboot of country football in 2022 has clubs pitching their future with emerging youngsters.

Names that have been constants in junior sporting achievements across the Loddon in COVID-disrupted cricket and football seasons.

A cohort at schoolmates together, playing cricket and football in the same teams.

As Inglewood’s Gabe Nevins and Jaspa Wendels say in chorus: “We’re peas in a pod.”

From those pods are players lacing up the boots not once but twice every Saturday, on-ground leaders and key drivers of players in the junior competitions and taking their spot alongside seasoned footballers later in the day in Loddon Valley and North Central league matches.

The pitch from clubs is about pathways for the next generation and rebuilding community connection ... and the future of country clubs and leagues at a time when the rebound from 2020 and 2021 has been mixed
