Duck hunting season ends
VICTORIA’S three-month duck hunting season ended Monday night,
Hunting opponents have claimed the season started and finished with a whimper.
Regional Victorians Opposed to Duck Shooting is wanting a switch in emphasis across the Loddon from hunting to nature-based tourism.
Project manager Sue Williams said: “When birdwatching is so popular and lucrative, and our regions are home to native waterbird species unique to our country, our opportunity is clear. But to be able to benefit, we must stop the gunfire, because it’s not synonymous.”
Strong numbers of shooters were reported across northern areas of the Loddon at the weekend and daily bag numbers easily met.
