Derby weekend

Updated: Oct 20, 2021

FOOTBALLERS and netballers across the Loddon will converge on Wedderburn this Saturday for the North Central league local derby.

For the top flight netballers from Boort and Wedderburn, it’s a clash of the undefeated.

Both sides have unblemished records coming into the weekend’s A Grade clash and separated by just 10 per cent.

The Magpies hold top spot and will enter the round’s premier game slight favourites.

On the football field, the Redbacks will be wanting to bounce back from last week’s loss to top of table Sea Lake Nandaly while the Pies have had their best start in seasons, sitting 3-3 after six rounds

Boort coach Andrew Hawker said: “The derby will be tough. Wedderburn have had a great start to the year and been more than competitive with everyone.

“I’ll certainly be looking at quite a bit of vision this week,” Hawker said.

Across the Loddon at Donaldson Park, Redback’s co-coach Danny Benaim says Wedderburn is not taking any chances.

“We’ve been playing some very good team footy and we’re confident we can bounce back (from the weekend’s loss) pretty quick,” Benaim said.

“Boort will no doubt be confident after a few good wins, so we are looking forward to a good contest.“
