Community steps up
AN ELEVENTH hour call to community has saved Korong Vale’s ANZAC Day service.
Amber Gibson said her community had quickly organised Monday’s commemoration after the RSL’s Wedderburn-Korong Vale sub-branch last week confirmed it would not organise the 9.30am service for the first time.
Amber said the community had been initially devastated by the RSL’s decision.
“I’ve been attending with my family for 30 years and for other families in the district, they have been part of ANZAC services in the Vale for generations,” she said.
Sub-branch president Roger Paterson blamed a shortage of resources and volunteers on the decision to step away from organising the Korong Vale service in the park that honours local Victoria Cross hero Albert Borella.
