Community group buys pub

COMMUNITY passion will renovate and re-open Dingee’s Railway Hotel.

A consortium of 17 local and Bendigo investors has established a property trust to buy the historic hotel that closed its doors last November.

Former local and real estate agent Matt Bowles said the sale contract was signed last Thursday night.

“We have community-minded people and some from Bendigo involved,” he said

“I was approached by a few locals after the hotel closed and we have drawn together a group of people to buy the hotel and lease it out to two local people.

““We’ve some refurbishment to do in the next couple of months including a new beer system and kitchen updates ahead of a planned re-opening in late August.”

Matt said there was enthusiasm for Dingee to have a place to gather.

“The bowling club was well supported over summer but now we’re heading into the depths of winter, everyone is wanting somewhere to meet,” he said.

Among those encouraging the new consortium owners are members of the town’s progress association.
