Breeze blows hopes

DEBUTANTE Isaac Holt got Wedderburn Redbacks off to a flying start in their North Central league opener against Donald on Saturday.
But Holt’s two goals in a strong first quarter - six goals to one - were not enough to deliver four points.
The Redbacks made good use of the breeze in the opening quarter but could not match that effort when again kicking with the wind in the third. They were held scoreless in the final quarter against the wind with scores tied on the final siren.
Co-coach Danny Benaim said: “We tackled and pressured really well all day.
“When we had the wind in the third quarter we didn’t quite use the ball well enough and missed a few goals we should have kicked.
“Disappointing, as we thought we should have won but round one and happy to leave with two points.”
Benaim said Holt was a key player all day for the Redbacks’ forward line while midfielder Jordan Rosengren and backman Hamish Winter-Irving impressed.
Reigning premiers Sea Lake Nandaly proved too strong for Boort on Saturday night.
