Back on local grounds

LODDON Valley football clubs have returned to local grounds for training in recent weeks ahead of Saturday’s season opener.

After initial training in Bendigo, all local clubs are on home turf and have committed to fielding senior and reserve grade teams along with Maiden Gully and Marong.

While clubs have been busy recruiting across Victoria over the summer, there had still been the call out for players at Mitiamo a fortnight ago.

Minor premiers, Mitiamo is one of several clubs with new coaches in season 2022.

Assistant coach since 2018, Marcus McKern has the senior reins of an experienced outfit that will again include a contingent from Queensland. The Superoos take on Bears Lagoon Serpentine where Justin Laird is the new coach.

Last season, Serp pushed top sides and Saturday’s first up clash may prove no different.

The clash of the round may, however, turn out to be Bridgewater against Pyramid Hill.
